The Day May Break
The Day May Break is NICK BRANDT’s ongoing global series portraying people and animals living with the direct consequences of climate change and environmental degradation. Photographed in Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Bolivia, the work focuses on communities displaced by cyclones, drought, and ecological collapse alongside rescued animals orphaned or permanently displaced by habitat loss and poaching.
Veiled in a pervasive fog, people and animals occupy the same visual space, emphasizing their shared vulnerability in a rapidly changing world. Brandt’s images dissolve the boundaries between species and landscape, presenting a haunting portrait of survival on a planet increasingly transformed by environmental loss.
