Still (FFS)
Plastic pollution has become a lethal threat to seabirds. Bottle caps, fishing line, and fragmented packaging accumulate in their stomachs, blocking digestion, causing internal injuries, and leading to slow starvation. Carried by ocean currents, this debris connects everyday human consumption to ecological devastation, as adult birds mistake plastic for food and unknowingly feed it to their chicks.
In Still (FFS), MANDY BARKER documents this crisis on Australia’s Lord Howe Island, where young Flesh-footed Shearwaters are often too burdened by ingested plastic to take flight. Photographed with restraint and dignity, Barker’s images serve as both elegy and indictment, revealing the enduring consequences of a disposable culture.
